Roulette Payout and House Edge Calculator

How to use the roulette calculator
Choose the wheel you are playing (European, American or French), pick your bet type, and enter a stake. The calculator shows the payout for that bet, your chance of winning a single spin, the house edge, and the cash you get back if it lands. The American wheel adds the 0 and 00 five number bet, and the French wheel applies the La Partage rule that softens the edge on even money bets. Pick a currency to label the amounts.
The terms in short
- European wheel: 37 pockets with a single zero. House edge 2.70% on every bet.
- American wheel: 38 pockets with 0 and 00. House edge 5.26%, or 7.89% on the five number bet.
- French wheel: single zero with La Partage, which halves the even money edge to 1.35%.
- Payout: the profit per unit if the bet wins, shown as X to 1.
- House edge: the share of each stake the casino keeps on average over time.
How it is calculated
With covered numbers, total pockets and the payout for the bet:
- Win chance
covered ÷ pockets - Return if it wins
stake × (payout + 1) - House edge
((pockets − covered) − covered × payout) ÷ pockets - French even money
house edge ÷ 2 (La Partage) - Average loss / spin
stake × house edge
The wheel you choose matters more than the bet
On a European wheel almost every bet carries the same 2.70% house edge, so no single bet is smarter than another, the edge is built into the layout. Where it really moves is the wheel itself: the American double zero nearly doubles the edge to 5.26%, while a French wheel with La Partage drops even money bets to 1.35%, the best deal on the table. Over enough spins the house edge always wins out, which is exactly why roulette is entertainment with a known cost, not a way to make money.
