Inside Casino Nanaimo you’ll find The Well, a comfortable spot for a fresh, hot, and tasty meal. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the service is excellent. Thank you to Mike and his team — Breanna, Lucy, Chris, and Kat — for the attentive service and great experience. The food was delicious, and the staff made the visit even better.

Worst humiliating experience with security. Checking my carry on suitcase for drugs snd alcohol, humiliating but mans do your job. Checking carryon suitcase, Im on hands and knees at enterance for all to see, humiliating but man's doing his job. I have to show him "all" contents in front of everyone, but man's doing his job. Finally, im cleared so I give some feedback. 1st, a discreet space would be helpful and respectfully. 2nd , no need to tell client you are checking her bag for drugs and alcohol which is an accusatory statement!!! .y feedback was not welcomed. They did not make any money from me thst day. I simply walk out after all that humiliation.
Someone needs to train their employees 🙂

Nice spot for mid-Island entertainment. Plenty of slot options and a few digital table games you can switch between. The live table games seem to only open at certain times—I usually go during the day or midweek, and they’re always closed. Staff are friendly and pleasant, and The Well restaurant serves decent food at a good price. There are some good eat-and-play deals too, so it’s worth grabbing a meal first to score some vouchers (I made the mistake of playing first, ha!).

Reaching the Property in Nanaimo

The central location places the venue beside Port Place Shopping Centre, within a ten-minute walk of the harbourfront. On-site parking is provided at no charge, with additional capacity at the adjacent Vancouver Island Conference Centre. Travellers select a route according to their point of origin.

  • By car: follow Highway 19A (Terminal Avenue) into downtown; the building sits roughly 20 minutes from Nanaimo Airport (YCD).
  • By ferry: BC Ferries connects Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay in about 1 hour 40 minutes, with the terminal a 10-minute drive away.
  • By seaplane: flights from Vancouver Harbour reach the inner harbour in approximately 15 minutes.
  • By transit: BC Transit routes serving Terminal Avenue stop within walking distance of the entrance.

After arriving, guests enter through the main doors, present identification, and may register for the loyalty program at Guest Services before stepping onto the gaming floor. Wheelchair-accessible parking spaces, restrooms, and entrances are positioned throughout the building for visitors requiring them.

Playing the Slot Machine Floor

The floor holds more than 400 slot machines spanning one-cent denominations to higher-limit units, with progressive jackpots reported up to $200,000 (CAD). Titles include 88 Fortunes, Lightning Link, Quick Hit, Cleopatra, and Lotus Flower, covering reel, video, and multi-line formats. To begin, a guest inserts cash or a printed ticket, selects the denomination and number of active lines, then presses the spin or bet button. Cashing out generates a TITO (ticket-in, ticket-out) voucher, redeemed at the cashier or a self-service kiosk. Complimentary coffee, tea, and soft drinks are supplied to active players on the floor.

Table Games and Electronic Tables

Casino Nanaimo separates its live dealer tables from its electronic terminals, with each operating on a distinct schedule. Players should confirm which pit is open before planning a session, since live tables open later than the electronic stations.

Live Table Games

Four live formats are dealt: Kings Bounty Blackjack, Free Bet Blackjack, RUYI Baccarat, and Ultimate Texas Hold’em. These tables run Monday through Thursday from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 AM to 2:00 AM, and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 AM. A player buys in by placing cash on the layout, which the dealer converts into chips before the next hand.

Electronic Tables

Electronic terminals open daily at 12:00 PM and carry lower entry points than the live pit. A guest takes a seat at a station, taps the touchscreen to confirm the stake, and the outcome resolves automatically without a live dealer.

Accessing the Poker Room

The room spreads a $1/$3 No Limit Texas Hold’em cash game with a minimum buy-in of $100 and a maximum of $400. Every dealt hand qualifies for the Local and Super Bad Beat jackpots, which build as play continues. Poker hours run Monday to Thursday 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM, Friday 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM, Saturday 12:00 PM to 2:00 AM, and Sunday 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM.

Joining the Waitlist

Seating follows a first-come waitlist managed by the poker staff. The registration procedure is direct.

  1. Visit Guest Services in person to sign up, as on-site registration takes priority over telephone requests.
  2. Alternatively, call 250-753-3033 to add a name to the list before arriving at the property.
  3. Stay inside the casino once listed, because the system removes any player paged three times without a response.

Players must be physically present when their name is called to claim a seat. No-show entries are cleared automatically, releasing the position to the next listed guest in sequence.

Dining at The Well Public House

The Well Public House anchors the food and beverage program with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a late-night service. The kitchen draws on local ingredients and rotates seasonal items alongside its standing list of pub fare.

Menu Highlights

Representative dishes (priced in CAD) include The Well Burger ($21), the NY Signature Steak ($35, a six-ounce striploin), Chicken Tacos ($18), and fish and chips (one piece $16, two pieces $20). The bar pours regional beers, wines, cocktails, and non-alcoholic selections. Encore members apply earned points toward food and beverage vouchers directly at the point of sale.

Using Encore Rewards Membership

Encore Rewards is the loyalty framework attached to the property, offered free across multiple tiers. The program tracks play, releases dining and gaming vouchers, and raises benefit levels as accumulated status increases.

Earning and Redeeming Points

Points accrue during slot, table, and dining activity, then convert into vouchers usable across the venue.

  1. Register at Guest Services with photo identification and collect a physical membership card.
  2. Insert the card into any slot machine or present it at a table or restaurant to log activity.
  3. Redeem accrued points for food, beverage, or gaming vouchers at the cashier or Guest Services.

Higher tiers (including Double Diamond and Triple Diamond) extend larger discounts and added offers. A companion application displays tier status, point balance, and deposit details, although it hosts no playable games.

Hours of Operation in Pacific Time

All schedules follow Pacific Time (PT), so visitors arriving from other provinces should adjust accordingly. The slot floor generally runs longer than the table games, while the poker room and electronic terminals keep their own posted windows noted above. Visitors are advised to confirm current hours by telephone before travelling, since holiday calendars and seasonal events shift opening times. Promotions, themed nights, and tournaments are programmed throughout the year.

Ownership and Responsible Gaming

Under Snuneymuxw First Nation stewardship through PDG, Great Canadian Casino Nanaimo operates within the regulatory framework of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation and the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch. The Nation directs proceeds toward community programs and economic development on its historic territory. Staff complete training to identify problem gambling, and players are encouraged to set personal limits before each session.
