I don't play the slots that much, but I really liked the food in the restaurant. I ordered the chicken finger platter. It did not disappoint. The waitress was very friendly and we received our food in a timely manner.

Hate this casino for so many reasons... it's the ugliest casino I have ever been to! 90% of staff are not friendly! Including the restaurant staff!!! They are the worst!! There is never anyone at the front desk!!!! Shouldn't there always be someone at front desk? Nope! Not here!!! Always gotta wait for security to call someone! The restaurant has cut all the food portions in half and raised prices! Worst casino ever! It's in my city so unfortunately I go but I think I'm going stop
Coming and make the drive to North Bay! I heard their
Casino is much nicer!

Well, I came to play a few times, so far there's only been one security guard and one manager that I get along with, there's two that are not very nice. The two I like smile and say "Hello, good luck!" Or "Hi, how are you?" The other two though, they don't smile or say "Welcome, have fun!" every single time. Every where I've been so far in this city, there's more places with miserable staff than anything. It's sad. I wish staff were nicer, especially here. If you leave unhappy, then you feel even worse. Or if you're happy, then you're happier when you talk to them. C'mon guys, don't take your job so seriously and smile like you love your job. I can't stand people like this.

Date day! Stopped in while passing through and decided to play 20$ on slots in memory of my dear mum who loved playing the penny machine! Well we were at the same machine for a couple of hours, up and down but so much fun! We came away with a few $ and feeling happy. All staff are lovely and attentive. We'll definitely stop in again. We had a great time!

Overview of the Ontario Venue

Gateway Casinos Sudbury is a land-based gaming site owned by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited. The property sits at 400 Bonin Road, Chelmsford, Ontario (P0M 1L0), on the former Sudbury Downs harness track, which ran until October 30, 2013. Gaming falls under the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), which sets technical standards, surveillance rules, and the 19+ entry age. Entry requires valid government-issued photo identification and proper attire. Because the site is physical rather than online, every transaction is settled on the floor in Canadian dollars (CAD).

Getting Onto the Gaming Floor

The floor centres on slot machines and electronic table games, so players plan around machine play rather than staffed pits. Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages are served on the floor, and the layout supports direct movement between game families.

Slot Machines and Denominations

The venue holds over 420 slot machines and electronic table games, from penny wagers to high-limit stakes. Formats include video slots, stepper-style units, and keno terminals. Linked progressive and branded titles include Dragon Link, Ultimate Fire Link, Wheel of Fortune, Quick Hits, Mo Mummy, Green Machine Deluxe, Tarzan, and Treasure Storm (linked progressive). To start, a player inserts cash or a printed ticket, selects the denomination, and confirms the bet line before spinning.

Electronic Table Games

Table-style play runs on fully electronic terminals (no human dealers). Electronic Blackjack and Roulette are available for faster rounds without dealer waits. Bets are placed on the terminal screen, and outcomes resolve automatically. Players seeking staffed pits or a poker room should plan a trip to a larger regional property.

Joining My Club Rewards

The My Club Rewards program tracks play and converts points into listed benefits across Gateway properties. Enrolment is free and completed in person at the Guest Services desk.

  • Visit Guest Services and present valid government-issued photo identification.
  • Complete the free membership form to receive the player card and a $5 Free Play credit for new sign-ups.
  • Insert the card into any slot or electronic terminal before play to accrue tier points.
  • Redeem accumulated points for free play, dining credits, or other listed rewards at the desk.

Tier points build with continued play, so the program returns the most value to repeat visitors. Birthday bonuses, bonus point days, and personalised offers are administered at the desk, not through an online dashboard.

Managing Payments and Cash Access

Transactions on the floor are mainly cash-based, which shapes session planning. Multiple ABMs (automated bank machines) operate on site, along with currency exchange services.

Using ABMs and TITO

The venue uses a ticket-in, ticket-out (TITO) system for cashless play inside the building. Small wins print to a ticket, which can be reinserted into another unit or redeemed at the cashier. Larger jackpots require cashier verification and identification before payout. Players should confirm daily ATM limits with their bank, since many Canadian credit issuers block gambling transactions and Interac debit is more reliable.

Planning a Visit to Sudbury

A short pre-visit checklist reduces friction at entry and during play. Preparation focuses on identification, banking, and personal limits.

  • Carry Canadian dollars (CAD) or a debit card, since credit gambling transactions are commonly blocked.
  • Confirm daily withdrawal limits with the home bank to avoid mid-session declines.
  • Set a fixed session budget and time limit, tracked through the TITO system.
  • Bring valid photo identification, as the 19+ rule is enforced at entry.

These steps keep cash flow predictable and help manage time on device. Free on-site parking simplifies arrival for local and visiting guests.

Hours and Location

The casino opens Sunday to Thursday from 10:00 am to 2:00 am and Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 am (Eastern Time). The Chelmsford address lies between Azilda and Chelmsford, within driving distance of central Greater Sudbury. Free parking and on-site ATMs support access.

Stay + Play Hotel Offers

Guests booking an overnight stay at a participating hotel may qualify for a $10 Bonus Play voucher issued at check-in, plus possible food and beverage discounts at the casino. Participating properties include the Clarion Hotel (117 Elm St., Sudbury, ON P3C 1T3, 705-674-7517), the Hampton Inn by Hilton (2280 Regent St., P3E 0B4, 705-523-5200), and Homewood Suites by Hilton (2270 Regent St., P3E 0B4, 705-523-8100). To claim the voucher, a guest presents the booking at check-in and brings it to Gateway Casinos Sudbury. Eligibility should be confirmed at reservation.

Dining and Community Programs

On-site dining and community initiatives extend the visit beyond machine play.

Champions Lounge

The Champions Lounge serves full meals and lighter snacks daily from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm. Guests order from the posted menu during service hours. The lounge is the venue’s primary in-house eatery.

GatewayGIVES

Through GatewayGIVES, the operator directed $1 million in monetary and in-kind donations over the prior year. Recipients have included the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Special Olympics. Appreciation offers (for example, $10 Free Play for eligible military and veterans) are administered on site.

Accessibility and Responsible Gaming

The facility follows the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), providing wheelchair access and assistance on request. Responsible-gaming tools are required under provincial rules and supported by trained staff.

  • Request wheelchairs, accessible formats, or communication support at Guest Services in advance.
  • Use the provincial responsible-gaming and self-exclusion options at AGCO-regulated venues.
  • Ask staff about lower-denomination machines (penny and loonie units) to control pace.

Arranging support ahead allows staff to coordinate before arrival. Setting personal loss and time limits remains the fastest control.

Final Notes for Ontario Players

The site suits players who want a regulated, slots-first session with electronic table options and a cross-property loyalty program. Visitors should arrive with valid identification, plan cash access around bank limits, and enrol in My Club Rewards to claim the $5 Free Play credit. Those seeking staffed dealer tables, a poker room, or resort amenities will find a larger Gateway property a closer match.
