No table game during the week days and very few table games during weekends, which makes it not worth it for long distance driving from montrea.

I visited the Casino de Charlevoix once, and the experience felt quietly special in a way I didn’t expect. The setting alone makes an impression — a château‑style building perched on the cliffs above the St. Lawrence River, with beautiful ocean‑like views that give the whole place a calm, elevated atmosphere.

Inside, the casino feels lively but not overwhelming. Even with slot machines, table games, and bars spread across the space, there’s a gentleness to the environment. Staff were cordial, the layout was easy to navigate, and the overall mood felt relaxed rather than rushed — something several visitors also highlight in their impressions.

What stayed with me most was the balance: a place designed for entertainment, yet surrounded by scenery that naturally slows you down. It’s the kind of spot where you can enjoy a quiet drink, play a little, and step back out into the fresh Charlevoix air feeling lighter than when you arrived.

For a one‑time visit, it was memorable — calm, scenic, and quietly special.

Wandered around the grounds for a while trying to suck in some of that philanthropic ambience....I felt it, and went inside. There's a lot of poker machines and I'm a frugal kind of gambler. The treasury department suggests "Gamble Responsibly"....and I do, but when it comes to drinkin'!!%??
I had a couple of beers and lunch, the young lady at the bar was very courteous, helpful and kind.

Cute casino, not very large but has all you need, at least if your not a big player. Went a Saturday evening when google said it was very busy but still had an easy time finding a spot to park in the 6$ covered section. They have slot machines for all tastes. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Casino de Charlevoix Overview in Quebec

Casino de Charlevoix operates in Pointe-au-Pic, now part of La Malbaie, in the Charlevoix-Est region of Quebec. The property sits roughly 150 kilometres (93 mi) east of Québec City, overlooking the St. Lawrence River and the Laurentian Mountains. Loto-Québec, a provincial Crown corporation, owns and operates the venue, which was inaugurated on June 24, 1994. The complex spans approximately 70,000 square feet and forms part of the Hôtel-Casino de Charlevoix.

Getting to the Property

Reaching the venue requires advance planning, since this part of Quebec has limited public transport. The casino lies about four kilometres from the centre of La Malbaie.

Public Transport Options

A train service connects Québec to La Malbaie, and a ferry service links several Charlevoix municipalities. Scheduled shuttle buses operate from Québec City, although availability shifts with season and demand. Travellers should confirm timetables with operators beforehand, and shuttle fares are reduced on Fridays and Saturdays.

Driving Routes

Drivers from Québec City follow Route 138, which passes the property. An alternate approach uses Highway 362 via Route du Fleuve, continuing past Côte Bellevue toward the resort. Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport, the nearest airport, is roughly a two-hour drive (150 kilometres) to the west. On-site parking is free when capacity permits.

Gaming Floor Access and Operations

The gaming floor holds more than 800 slot machines and over 20 gaming tables across several zones, including a high-limit lounge. Slot stakes range from one cent to $100 CAD per spin. Live table games open at 11:00 daily, while the broader floor follows the schedule below.

Friday

Slot Machines

The slot inventory combines classic three-reel units, video models, and progressive jackpot titles such as Powerbucks. Branded games include Cleopatra and Double Diamond, and multi-game stations let a player switch titles at one terminal. Video poker terminals are also positioned on the floor.

Table Games

To join a table, a player takes an open seat, exchanges cash for chips with the croupier, then places bets within the posted limits. Poker runs with and without limits, with entry stakes starting at $1 or $2 CAD across the seven poker tables. Available formats include:

  • Blackjack and Free Bet Blackjack
  • Roulette and Interactive (electronic) Roulette
  • Baccarat and Mini-Baccarat
  • Three Card Poker, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, Caribbean and Pai Gow Poker
  • Keno, Sic Bo, and electronic craps at the multi-game station

These formats are grouped by limit range, so players can move between low-stakes terminals and the high-limit lounge as preferred.

Entry Requirements and Dress Code

Access to Casino de Charlevoix is restricted to visitors aged 18 and over, consistent with Loto-Québec policy, and staff may request proof of age at the door. Guests should carry valid government-issued photo identification. The dress code is smart casual; clothing displaying provocative or violent imagery is refused, while formal wear is not mandatory. Outside food and beverages are not permitted, and anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs is asked to leave. The underground passageway links the floor to Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, allowing guests to leave coats in their room on cold evenings.

Dining and Bars

The complex operates several restaurants and two bars overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Options span quick service to formal dining:

  • Le Saint-Laurent — breakfast service
  • Bistro La Timonerie — light meals with river views
  • Le Charlevoix — formal dining
  • Bellerive — varied menus
  • Charlevoix St-Hubert — rotisserie chicken with BBQ sauce and all-you-can-eat coleslaw, dine-in or takeout

The Casino Bar sits on the gaming floor, while La Brise (Breeze) lounge bar is located in the hotel lobby. Bar 21, a 200-seat show bar added in 2008, hosts live band and DJ performances.

Accommodation at Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu

The five-star Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, built in 1928–1929 in Châteauesque style, holds 405 smoke-free rooms across five floors. The hotel connects to the casino on the same grounds and welcomes over one million visitors annually. Reservations are made directly through the hotel, and several stay-and-play packages bundle accommodation with gaming vouchers, dining, golf, or spa treatments.

Room Categories

Room types range from the Fairmont Room (about 20 by 20 sq ft) to the larger Deluxe View Room and Deluxe View Jacuzzi Room (around 250 by 290 sq ft) with whirlpool baths. One-bedroom suites add separate living areas, marble bathrooms, and king-size beds. Garden or river views are available depending on category.
