How to use this calculator

Enter the current pot (everything already in the middle, before your call) and the amount you have to call. The calculator shows your pot odds and the equity you need to make the call break even. Then pick your situation and enter your outs - the cards that complete your hand - and it works out your real chance to hit, compares it with the equity you need, and gives a call or fold verdict plus the expected value of the call. Use the quick buttons for common draws, or type an exact number of outs.

The terms, explained

• Pot odds - the ratio of the pot to your call. A 100 pot and a 25 call is 4:1, meaning you risk 1 to win 4.
• Equity you need - the minimum chance of winning that makes the call break even. It is the call divided by the final pot.
• Outs - the unseen cards that turn your hand into the winner. A flush draw has 9 outs, an open-ended straight draw has 8.
• Your chance to hit - the actual probability of catching an out, based on how many cards are still to come.
• Implied odds - extra money you expect to win on later streets if you hit. They can justify a call that pure pot odds would not.

How it is calculated

Everything comes from counting cards, so the tool never needs updating. With the flop showing there are 47 unseen cards; after the turn there are 46.

• Hit chance (1 card)P = outs ÷ unseen
• Hit chance (2 cards)P = 1 − (misses on turn) × (misses on river)
• Value of the callEV = chance × pot − (1 − chance) × call

Call when your chance to hit is higher than the equity you need. When it is lower, fold unless implied odds make up the difference.
