How to use this calculator
Count your outs - the unseen cards that turn your hand into a likely winner - and type the number in, or tap one of the common draws. The calculator shows your chance to improve by the river when you will see both remaining cards (the flop situation), and your chance on a single card for the flop-to-turn and turn-to-river spots. It also gives the odds against hitting and the quick rule-of-4-and-2 estimates. The chart below lists the standard draws and their equity so you can recognise them at the table.
Counting outs for common draws
- Flush draw - 9 outs. Thirteen cards of a suit, minus the four you can see.
- Open-ended straight draw - 8 outs. Either end completes the straight, four cards at each end.
- Gutshot (inside) straight draw - 4 outs. Only one rank fills the gap.
- Two overcards - 6 outs. Three cards to pair each of your two high cards.
- Set looking to improve - 7 outs to a full house or quads.
- Combo draws - add them up: a flush draw plus an open-ended straight draw is about 15 outs.
How the equity is calculated
It is pure card counting, so the figures never change. With the flop showing there are 47 unseen cards; after the turn there are 46.

odds = (1 − P) : P
The two-card figure is a little lower than simply doubling the one-card number, because you cannot count the same out twice across both streets.
The rule of 4 and 2: with two cards still to come, multiply your outs by 4; with one card to come, multiply by 2. Nine outs gives about 36% by the river and about 18% on the next card - within a point or two of the exact answer, which is why it is the fastest mental tool in poker. One caution: discount outs that could give an opponent a better hand, such as a flush card that also pairs the board.
