How to use this calculator

Add the selections you want to back and enter the odds for each - they are usually different runners or results in the same market at one bookmaker. Choose whether to work from a total stake or a target profit. With "Total stake" you set how much to invest and the calculator splits it so every backed selection returns the same amount. With "Target profit" you set the profit you want if any selection wins, and it works out the total stake and the split. The breakdown shows exactly how much to place on each selection.

Dutching versus arbitrage

  • Dutching backs a chosen subset of a market - the selections you think have value - for the same profit whichever of them wins. If none win, you lose your total stake.
  • Arbitrage covers every outcome, usually across different books, for a guaranteed profit no matter what.
  • Selections cover - the combined implied probability of your set. The lower it is, the bigger the profit if one hits, but the more often none will.
  • When it helps - narrowing a race to a few live contenders, or spreading a position across several correlated results.

How it is calculated

The split simply makes every backed selection pay the same return, so the maths never changes - only your odds and stake do.

  • Selections covercover = 1÷odds₁ + 1÷odds₂ + …
  • Stake on a selectionstakeₐ = total × (1÷oddsₐ) ÷ cover
  • Return per winnerreturn = total stake ÷ cover
  • Profit if one winsprofit = return − total stake

Profit is positive only when your selections cover less than 100% of the market; the lower the cover, the larger the win when one lands.

Dutching is not a guaranteed win - it only equalises your profit across the selections you back. You still lose the whole stake when a result outside your set wins, so it pays off only if your selections are genuinely more likely than their combined odds suggest. It is a staking tool, not an edge in itself: the value has to come from your read on the market, not from the split.
