Craps Payout and House Edge Calculator

How to use this calculator
Choose a craps bet from the list, set your stake and pick a currency. The calculator instantly shows the payout odds, the profit if the bet wins, your total return (stake plus profit) and the built-in house edge for that bet. Buy and Lay bets already include the standard 5% commission, and the two Field options cover the common payout rules. The win chance and true odds under the results tell you the real chance of the bet landing - remember that total return includes your original stake, while profit is the return minus that stake.
The main craps bets, explained
- Pass / Don't Pass - the core line bets, made before the come-out roll. Both pay even money and carry the smallest edge on the table.
- Free Odds - an extra bet placed behind a line bet once the point is set. It is paid at true odds, so it has a 0% house edge and pulls down your combined edge.
- Place and Buy - bet that a chosen number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) shows before a 7. Place bets pay fixed odds; Buy bets pay true odds minus a 5% commission.
- Lay - the opposite of a Buy: you bet the 7 beats the number, paid at true odds minus a 5% commission.
- Field - a one-roll bet that the next roll is 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12, with the 2 and 12 paying extra.
- Hardways - a multi-roll bet that a 4, 6, 8 or 10 is rolled as a pair before its easy version or a 7.
- Proposition bets - high-paying one-roll bets like Any Seven or Eleven. The flashy payouts hide the largest edges on the table.
How the payout and house edge are worked out
Every figure comes from the 36 equally likely two-dice combinations - no live data, no guesswork. The payout is simply the odds ratio applied to your stake; the house edge is the gap between what the bet pays and the true odds of it winning.
- Profit if it wins
profit = stake × (a ÷ b) - Total return
return = stake + profit - House edge
edge = P(lose) − P(win) × (a ÷ b) - True (fair) odds
fair = (1 − p) : p
For a Pass Line bet, the chance of winning is 244 in 495 (about 49.29%), which works out to a 1.41% edge. Compare the payout odds with the true odds and you can see exactly where the house takes its cut.
Where the value is: stick to the Pass, Don't Pass, Come and Don't Come bets, then back them with as much Free Odds as the table allows - the odds portion is paid fairly and drags your overall edge toward zero. The Place 6 and Place 8 are the friendliest of the rest at 1.52%. The proposition bets in the middle of the table look exciting but cost you 11% to nearly 17% per bet.
